Well, the new site has been out for 1 week now and here's the skinny. The site was switched to the BlogEngine.Net engine and here's the impression I've gotten so far.

Pros:Cons:
  • Easy to install/setup.
  • Easy to import existing data*(see Con #3)
  • Good integration with offline editor (LiveWriter).
  • Easy Theme Changing.
  • Easy Theme Creation.
  • Mobile Theme Support.
  • Extendible (open source .Net app)
  • No usage reports.
  • Difficulty with permissions for images.
  • Improper support for Imports of Tags & Images.
  • Difficulty with Caching (for Mirror Sites)
  • Some bugs (with v 1.4.5 but there are supposed fixes out there if you are willing to compile it yourself.

Am I missing anything? Got something to add? Feel free to add a comment or shoot me a line.

New Site Launch

I did the big switchover today from Graffiti (http://graffiticms.com) to one powered by the BlogEngine.Net (http://DotNetBlogEngine.com). So far I have to say it's been pretty good. You'll have to let me know what you think of the new site, both functionally and visually. I like the re-skinned theme I used.

There are still a couple things I'm working out/on:
- Blog Tags didn't convert
- Blog Images didn't convert
- Photo Gallery (the little there was) didn't get recreated yet.

Beyond the list above though I think I got it all working.

Reading: Orcs - Stan Nicholls

Started a new book this week. Orcs by Stan Nicholls (amazon) - The Omnibus Edition.

So far (I'm only a ways into Book 1 of 3) I have to say it's quite interesting. It seems like a classic mythology book like many others but this one has a unique perspecitve, that of the Orcs. The book is from their point of view. Definitely a new way of looking at things and I have to say, it works. It breaks you out of the monotony you may be pulled into when reading a lot of this type of material.

XBox 360 - RROD, Again

Just when I was getting excited that my new Red XBox 360 Elite was scheduled to arrive (on Friday) I get the call from home that my current XBox 360 (an older premium with 20gb and no HDMI) has Red Ring Of Death, again. Looks like I'll be looking up all the details and hitting the Microsoft site tonight to see about a repair/replacement.

Speaking of the 360.... is the Transfer Kit pretty easy/fast to do? I need to get all the stuff off the old console HD and load it on the new one but didn't know how bad that process was.

Need new Blog/CMS Software

10. March 2009 - Curt C

Well, it looks like GraffitiCMS (http://graffiticms.com), which has been powering my site for the last few months may have died off. Telligent (http://telligent.com) which developed Graffiti seems to have abandoned the project. With that in mind I'm in need of finding myself some new Blog/CMS software.

What I'm looking for....
- Blogging
- Good RSS exposure
- Photo Album integration.
- Good Admin tools (Moderation, User Mgt)
- MS SQL backend.

Additional Features I would Really like.
- Prefer it be a .Net engine.
- Ability to Import the Graffiti posts (I dont want to start over, again).
- Extendability.... I want to write additional functionality when I see fit.
- Easy theme ability.

Let me know what you know....share the knowledge.
